Why the ASAFA Academy

—

The Academy is a collaborative space where you'll exchange experience with other SAF professionals across the region, and build a network you'll keep drawing on long after the course ends.

Real-World Application

Every module is built around real regulatory frameworks and market mechanics: CORSIA compliance, carbon intensity methodology, book-and-claim.

Regional Focus

Content is built for Asia-Pacific's SAF market specifically: its regulatory environments, trade dynamics, and production pathways

Deep Domain Knowledge

Modules are taught by ASAFA members and partners: the airlines, producers, traders, and regulators actively shaping the SAF market across Asia-Pacific.
How the ASAFA certification works

Three-level SAF credential

Level 1: SAF Essentials

A half-day session, open to anyone, no background needed. You leave able to hold a credible conversation about SAF: what it is, how it is made, what the rules are, who pays the premium, and where the jobs sit.

You get a completion badge. There is a short knowledge check at the end, but it is not graded and you cannot fail it.

Most people use Level 1 to decide whether the rest of the program is for them. That is what it is for.

Level 2: SAF Practitioner Certificate

Four modules of three days each, covering policy and markets, technology and feedstocks, project development and finance, and carbon accounting and certification.

Each module ends in an assessment: a short written test plus an applied exercise using the tools you were taught.

Complete all four and you hold the SAF Practitioner Certificate. At that point you can contribute usefully in a SAF role across any of the five domains, with one you know best.

Level 3: International SAF Professional designation

Five advanced modules of four to five days: advanced policy and trade, process technology and fuel qualification, the project development clinic, feedstock sourcing and supply-chain integrity, and the carbon accounting and certification clinic. Pick the ones that match where you want to specialize in.

These are clinics where you produce real work: a drafted policy instrument, a financial model taken to investment-committee standard, a defended carbon-intensity calculation, a supply strategy with its risk register. Each module is graded on what you produce, not on attendance.

To earn the designation you need the Level 2 core or equivalent, any three advanced modules, and a capstone. An individual or small-team project applying what you have learned to a real problem in Asian SAF, presented to a panel of working practitioners from member companies.

All Courses

An industry-first approach

The people doing the work. That is the whole design principle.

ASAFA is an industry-independent non-profit built around the organisations actually producing, certifying, financing, buying and regulating sustainable aviation fuel in Asia. Faculty are drawn from that membership and from our partners, not from a standing academic bench. You are taught pathway economics by people who have modelled them, certification by people who conduct the audits, and feedstock integrity by people who source the material.

What the membership covers

Our members span the full value chain, which is what makes a cross-disciplinary programme possible in the first place.

Production and technology

Operating SAF producers, technology licensors and developers across every major pathway: HEFA, Fischer-Tropsch, alcohol-to-jet, power-to-liquid and emerging waste-to-jet routes. Between them they have built, licensed and commissioned plants, including first-of-a-kind facilities where the lessons were expensive.

Feedstock and supply

Waste oil aggregators, palm and oleochemical producers, ethanol suppliers and traders operating across Southeast Asia. This is where Asia's SAF industry is genuinely distinctive, and where our members' knowledge has no equivalent in European or American training.

Refining and integration

Regional refiners in Japan, Thailand and beyond, working on co-processing and integration into existing assets, with operational discipline you do not find in a classroom.

Certification, verification and testing

Accredited verification bodies and analytical specialists who conduct the audits, run the test methods and issue the certificates the rest of the industry depends on.

Demand and offtake

Airlines and global logistics operators who buy SAF, negotiate offtake and make the Scope 1 and Scope 3 claims that certification exists to support.

Markets and policy

rice reporting agencies covering SAF and feedstock markets, and policy organisations working the regulatory interface between Asia and the jurisdictions whose rules shape Asian supply.

Aerospace and standards

Aircraft manufacturers and the standards bodies responsible for fuel qualification, who can explain what approval actually requires rather than what people assume it requires.
